When you hear the word “high achiever,” who springs to mind?
That one annoying sorority sister who always had straight A’s, ridiculously good hair and a hot boyfriend? ;)
Well, what about YOU?
Seriously. Do YOU identify as a high achiever? Or do you feel like you’re underperforming?
Well, if you know my story at all, you know I definitely fall on the achievers side. Even when I was living in post-communist Ukraine - where literally nobody did anything “big” with their lives, people used to be jailed for speaking up and everyone thought I was crazy for not wanting to just get a decent job, earn a livable wage and go about my life – I knew I had to have more.
Yep. I’ve always had big aspirations and lofty goals. I’ve always known that eventually I’d end up with more – more money, more freedom, more impact in the world (even if it meant I had to move to a different part of the world and leave my home behind).
Luckily, I grew up with the mindset that if you want something in life, you've got to not only work hard for it, you've got to fight for it (probably because so many women before me in the Soviet Union had to do just that!).
And work hard and fight like I have!
From leaving my home country and all my family and friends (which was gut-wrenching but also the best decision I’ve ever made), to getting my PhD at 25 years old, to becoming a self-made millionaire before 30 (that’s the plan, anyway! ;) )... I’ve made (almost) all my big goals and dreams a reality.
Unfortunately, I know a lot of other people who also have big goals and never make them happen.
I talk to tons of clients every.single.day. who are just as smart, talented and obsessed-with-the-good-life as I am, yet don’t feel like ‘high achievers’ at all.
Quite frankly, it tears me up!
Because here’s the dealio…We can actually ALL hit ‘high achiever’ status.
It just takes looking at what “high achieving” means a little bit differently.
